The Center on Colfax
In the 2018-2019 school year, I, amongst other students, were given the chance to take advantage of professional experiences and job shadowing days.
Since it was my junior year of high school, I began to look more at job shadowing experiences that looked into career fields I was heavily considering, and this search led me right to The Center on Colfax--or by its more popular name, The LGBT Center of Colorado.
There, I had the chance to job shadow with Sable Schultz, the Transgender Programs Coordinator. While I did not have a specific interest in being a programs coordinator, I wanted to get a better look into the behind-the-scenes advocacy happening in my home state. I am a proud LGBT+ student, and I knew that there was much more going on then was being given credit towards. So, where better to start then with someone like Ms. Schultz?
During my visit, Sable Schultz gave me a brief introduction to what she did herself in terms of arranging programs for transgender youth, but then decided to give me a tour of The Center itself, and then introduce me to her colleagues. From there, I was given a deeper insight to just what everyone did at The Center, all the way from planning Denver's annual Pride Parade, to handling the finances and building maintenance.
